Sauce:
1 ½ C water
1 C brown sugar
2 T butter
1 t vanilla
½ t salt
Dumplings:
1 ½ C flour
¼ C sugar
¾ t baking powder
½ C milk
2 T canola oil
1 t vanilla
1 C diced apples
Combine sauce ingredients in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Combine ingredients for dumplings and drop by heaping spoons into the boiling sauce. Reduce to low, cover, cook until the dumplings pass a toothpick test: about 10 min. Serve warm with ice cream.
