Dude Ranch Kids Programs | Children's Horseback Riding | Dude Ranch Kids Campout

Just for Kids

“I’m bored” is a phrase you won’t hear

Structured activities throughout the day keep youngsters occupied and entertained. While parents are on their trail rides, children are supervised in fun and educational activities. Our intent at Latigo Ranch is to give you flexibility and freedom. For some activities, parents want to be with their children; at other times they would like to be able to do things separately. The children's program is not mandatory. A family can do everything together, but we have found that most children prefer to be with their peers and counselor whenever possible.

Kids' Ute Scouts Campout

Kids' Ute Scouts Cookout

We offer a fun Wednesday dinner alternative. The Ute were the indigenous  people who lived in this area before the arrival of the settlers.

Children who are riding in the regular horse program may ride on the Ute Scouts Dinner Cookout. It is geared for kids 6 to 10 years of age, but younger children may hike the short distance into the site with one or more of their parents following a short drive. The permanent tipi campsite is located on Latigo property within a quarter of a mile of a ranch road. Any parent who wants to be a part of this may ride along, or parents who don’t want to make the ride, may rendezvous with their children later in the day by hiking in.

After a normal morning ride or activities, Ute Scouts will leave shortly following lunch Thursday and arrive at the campsite mid-afternoon. Then all will play games and learn some cowboy skills. Kids like hot dogs and soda. That’s what they’ll get! The campsite is close enough that  the Ute Scouts will get back to Latigo in time for the Western Dance that evening.
