For those who are ready for their next adventure, the September cattle roundup at Latigo Ranch should be on your calendar!
From the days before the West was fenced all the way to late summer of 2019, and every year into the foreseeable future, there is a unique opportunity to relive history: the cattle round up. As long as there are humans eating beef, and high-mountain pastures for those cows to graze, there will be cowboys who need to gather the herd down to lower country.
It is the best opportunity to see the summer turn golden, breathe the crisp air every morning, and to meet the men and women who make their living by abiding with the land and the creatures on it. The days on horseback are long and deeply gratifying.
We often trailer our horses and saddles to where the local ranchers need a helping hand. This is where you take your adventure into your own hands: you brush and saddle your horse, make sure your lunch is packed in the saddlebags, your slicker is tied on tight, and you’re doing what you can to join the cowboys and cowgirls who do this for a living.
Sometimes it is searching the hills for a lost mama and calf.
Other days, you’ll be keeping several hundred head of cattle in line on their way to the holding pens.
But every single day, you’ll be riding under the western sky, God’s country under your feet, and your friends at your side. It’s the best time of year, and all you have to do is book the week at Latigo to experience it.
You will see the country that’s rarely ridden, and only barely fenced. You will ride your horse through some rougher terrain and test your metal against the mountains. You will have the time of your life. And, as always, there’s a spectacular dinner and a warm bed waiting for you at the end of every day.
