A regular question we field when speaking to parents interested in a family vacation at Latigo is: “What kind of activities do you have for kids?” The question is often paired up with another, “Will we be able to have some family time?” as if to imply that there are really only two options. Either your kids will be bored, and it will be your responsibility to entertain them or you will never see your kids because there are so many activities for them, they won’t have time for you.
We don’t believe in that at Latigo. We believe you can have it all, and here’s how.
Not only do families have the option of eating together at every meal, but the kids can also choose to band together with newfound friends at a separate table, or any mix of the above. Kids are given the chance to ride with their peers and have fun playing games or tailoring their rides to suit different attention spans and different age ranges. However, there are also at least two family rides built into every week.
Your kids have a dedicated wrangler, ready to make sure they’re learning at their own pace. There is a supplemental booklet for any kid who wants to be a Jr. Wrangler at Latigo, where they can learn about horse anatomy, color pictures of the ranch dog, or just read up about Colorado and the history behind Latigo. In addition to the horseback learning that has been a part of the Latigo program for over thirty years, kids who wish to participate in Jr. Wrangler activities can learn about other aspects of ranching and the West. Veterinary work, horseshoeing, tack-cleaning, and the like. They can even request to learn how to groom and saddle their own horses.
You can, too, but, you were asking if your kids were going to be bored, so…
If the kids are interested, they can choose to go on a supervised camping trip, with or without their parents. The wranglers are there to make sure they stay safe and have a great time, and they are dedicated to ensuring your kids have the best vacation ever. They'll even learn how to tie knots if they want, and the wranglers are really good sports about letting them practice, too.
All of that and more is just part of a regular week at Latigo for those under the age of 14. The normal activities (rafting, archery, shooting, riding, swimming, playing games, and square dancing) are open for any of the kids who want to give it a try.
At this point, you shouldn’t be wondering if your kids will be bored, you should be wondering whether or not you’ll be able to keep up with your kids. Get your kids to Latigo: we do all the work, but you get all the credit for the best vacation your family could ask for.
What are you waiting for? Latigo is waiting for you.
