With everything that happened last year, we were understandably concerned about jumping back into our routines for this summer season. We knew it would be a lot of work, what with clearing trail and repairing the damage done by the fire. Between that and the shift of Hannah moving from the kitchen to the Head Wrangler position, we were ready for changes. 
We weren’t exactly ready for a snowy, chilly, wet spring that held up our pasturing schedule for the herd. But we made do, and we all got to practice some light irrigating skills as we tried to get the water through our walking areas.
And, as a dude ranch, we’re always on the lookout for new and better horses to add to our string – horses who will give our guests the ride of a lifetime! They come to us from all over: sales, word-of-mouth, and a few reliable sources. So far this year, we’ve already added three to our string. They were locally owned and trained, too! We’re pretty excited about Pilgrim, Rio, and Montana, and we think that they’ll be a valuable addition to the herd.
It really felt like we were getting our feet under us for summer. The weather was good, the herd is warmed up, and we’re about to hit upon several full weeks.
Then it snowed six inches. Two days in a row.
It’s almost like the mountains were trying to remind us of their height, age, and grandeur. The aspen bows bent and broke under the weight of the snow, but we had fun throwing snowballs at each other and playing holiday music while we were getting ready to ride through our wintry summer wonderland!
