Because you got to be one for a week when you were at Latigo. There's something about the mountains that can calm a troubled mind, inspire the soul, and heal the heart. In light of the last post on this blog, it seemed appropriate to spotlight one of our many, many five-star reviews on TripAdvisor.com. This is what our dear guest-friend, screen name "HolidayMutt" had to say about coming to Latigo under the title, "Bucket List Must!"
"My partner had always wanted to go to a ranch, as I’ve never been on a horse, I was more than sceptical. The thought of no TV and phone for two weeks scared me, not to mention sitting on a 500kg animal with no prior knowledge of how to handle it.
Putting my doubts aside and agreed to go.
We arrived late due to technical issues with United airline plane!
Lisa the ranch owner met us with a beaming smile and welcome.
Our bags were taken to our cabin and we attended the welcome meeting where everybody introduced themselves.
The cabin was perfect, cosy and well appointed, cold drinks in the fridge and caramel corn available.
The outside porch overlooked the most amazing view when we got up in the morning, and I went on a morning hike with Jennifer. The scenery was breathtaking.
Breakfast was fantastic with everything you could want from fruit and homemade granola to breakfast burritos. Next came the horse orientation which I was nervous about, We were all allocated a horse suited to our capabilities and personality, and put into groups. (The ranch has in the region of 80 quality, trained, and well-behaved horses, which we could tell were all cared for excellently). As I was very nervous I had several one to one sessions in the arena with the most patient and knowledgeable wranglers on how to control and ride my horse, this gave me the confidence to go out on the trails in the small groups assigned according to ability, such as walk only, walk learn to trot, trotting, trotting learn to lope, and loping, I obviously chose walk only!
Walk only, soon became learn to trot, and then we went up through the groups over the two weeks, I couldn’t believe how much I was enjoying the freedom and even did the all day ride which was amazing and beyond anything I’d ever imagined I was capable of doing.
Away from the riding which I’m still pinching myself about, the daily activities were well planned and the days just flew by. Activities such as white water rafting, shooting, climbing, fishing,
hiking, were all available but you could also just relax by the beautiful pool, take in the postcard panoramic views or just read on the porch. There is something for everyone.
The food needs its own category, Spencer the chef and his team produce spectacular food from breakfast, lunch to evening meal, to satisfy any appetite. There is so much I could write about the food but I’m just going to discuss the evening meals which were always three-course extremely well presented, and mouthwatering, with no compromise on quality or taste. Whether it be fresh leaf salad with walnuts to start, fantastic ribeye steak, accompanied by fresh asparagus and the most amazing Parmesan risotto for main, to a chocolate soufflé expertly cooked, which was to die for, for dessert. The thought of it still makes my mouth water now.
I couldn’t end this review without commenting on the quality of all of the staff, maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen and wranglers who were all extremely courteous, patient and professional. Without them, the whole experience would not have been possible.
Finally to Randy and Lisa ( the owners). Thank you so much for making a truly wonderful holiday and lifetime experience for us both, we can’t express how welcome you made us feel, and felt you tapped into exactly what we were looking for and needed, amazing! Already counting the days until we can return, so missing the sunsets.
