It's always an honor when our excellence is recognized, and, for the second year in a row, Latigo Ranch has been nominated for voting in USA TODAY’s 10 Best Cross-Country Ski Resorts. Last year we ranked very respectably, and we certainly belong on this list, but let me explain why...
Location: Latigo Ranch is ideally located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. When it was founded by Frank Kasdorf in the 1920s, he chose a place that was near the high country, sheltered from the wind, surrounded by stunning views, and privately accessed from the steady creep of civilization. On a clear day (which is most days), we can see over 60 miles to the Great Divide. Having a lodge and cabins nestled in just the right spot means that we get great snow, mild winds, and… well… just a great destination! 
Service: summer or winter, Latigo is known for truly excellent service. We, the owners, run Latigo. There’s no corporate structure or bureaucracy, just a family of likeminded dude-ranching cross-country skiers who are dedicated to making sure you have a fantastic time while you’re with us. Our food is excellent, and we’re constantly looking for ways to up our game and move to the next level. Our buildings are historic but comfortable, and the guest cabins are well-appointed and cozy. Our personal touch is what makes Latigo truly special, and in the winter, you can count on individual, specialized time with at least one owner every single day.
The experience: Latigo in the winter is very different from Latigo in the summer. The horses are down in winter pasture, and all the saddles are packed up until the snow starts melting. We don’t hire much, if any, help for our winter season. It’s just us, the snow, the mountains, and the calmest, coziest winter vacation you’ll ever have.
