God Makes our Next Door Neighbor

God Makes our Next Door Neighbor

October 29, 2018

The West as it is now has a good many things in common with the West as it was a hundred years ago. The mountains are just as beautiful, the hunting is still good, and the neighbors are still neighborly. We, here, at the Latigo Ranch have always tried to be good neighbors.

It's not too hard to do when your nearest ones are six miles away, but the spirit is still there. In spite of the demanding schedule of owning and running a dude ranch, we've done what we could in the community. Maybe it has something to do with the sparseness of the population out here, but there's a sense of obligation to our fellow man. If we don't help, there's no one else around who might.

Well, when the Silver Creek Fire swept down out of the Sarvis Creek Wilderness to our north this summer, we found our neighbors had our back. On our evacuation day, Randy could barely take two steps without his phone ringing with another offer of help.

Those offers were realized when we had to move our herd to various places and ten horse trailers showed up, when we had a place to stay with all of our staff when we displaced from the ranch, when a neighbor arrived and helped us replace burned out H-braces, and the folks who said we didn't have to pay our hay bill the month it was due. Our neighbors are not just local; so many of our former guests, staff, and friends contributed to our GoFundMe.com account to help us recover during this turbulent business era.

But we were still neighbors in our own right, and, when we were evacuated, our staff weren't interested in sitting on their thumbs. Two of them drove over to help out a nearby ranch with several maintenance projects that were just a bit much to do without their assistance.

Life is great our here, but it's even better with good neighbors.

If you want to experience that kind of community and love, you can do so through a summer job at Latigo, a stay during our winter season, or even a week-long vacation in the summer. What are you waiting for? Latigo is waiting for you.

‘Thank you’ just seems so inadequate…It was honestly one of the best vacations I can remember.

We loved Latigo Ranch! It was our best vacation ever! Cabins were comfortable, food was scrumptious and the wranglers were wonderful.
