The best nighttime activities happen every single night at Latigo. We start our guests off with hors d'ouvres and a mixer so everyone gets to know everyone, then a big dinner, and it's followed by an orientation where we talk fun, safety, and what the week holds.
Monday night is nothing but good old-fashioned fun. We light a fire in the pit and have our guests learn how to crack bull whips, throw tomahawks, shoot a bow and arrow, and learn how to rope. Everyone's laughing while the sky turns red and the sun makes the Great Divide glow like it's the edge of the world.
Tuesday is the evening when everyone eats early so they can get out with their families for an evening ride and see the mountains in their full glory. #nofilter.
On Wednesday, the guests who aren't up in the high country on a pack trip get to hear a local cowgirl sing songs about the west and our history in it while Hannah backs her up on fiddle. By the time they finish with her final chorus of "Dad's Song", most of the audience is trying to discretely wipe away tears.
Thursday, the music stays on, and Hannah calls an old-school barn dance. There's line dancing, square dancing, and circle dancing. The songs ranch from old favorites like the "Virginia Reel" to some Garth Brooks to keep the cowboy boots tapping, and she teaches the whole dance through, so everyone can participate if they want to.
At this point, we're ready to really wow the crowd, so Spencer and Randy throw a massive steak cookout for Friday dinner. The buffet is huge, and everyone comes back for seconds of Lisa's jello pretzel salad. Everyone arrives in the covered wagon and get their awards for team penning earlier that afternoon; however, when they get back to the ranch, they get to make their own mark on history and brand the side of the Lodge with their own custom design. Because everyone who comes to Latigo is a part of the ranch, and we want them to know the same love and ownership for the West that we feel.
