We had a successful beginning of our 20th summer season with a week of great guests. One of the family groups that joined us has come many summers before, and they celebrated a 59th wedding anniversary with us. We loved being a part of that. They always join us the first week of the summer, so often they have the ranch to themselves. This year though two other very nice families booked, and they all had a great time together supplementing the normal fun ranch activities with a blistering afternoon game of wiffleball. It was staff against the guests, and it was pretty obvious that we hired people more skilled in their particular fields rather than in the art of wiffleball. Everyone had a great time though, and we kept reminding ourselves that that was the main goal.
At lunch on Saturday, our guests from Florida were scheming about planning their return to the ranch next summer and admitted to being a bit misty eyed on their last trail ride at the thought that someone else might be riding their horse the next day. We never like to see our guests cry, but it makes us happy to know that we’ve successfully brought them into the heart of Latigo.
Hannah and I took a photography excursion last evening as the sun was setting. We drove down the road below the breakfast site to a meadow notorious for at least an acre of blue lupine this time of year. On our way, we scared up a pronghorn buck, and Hannah thinks she got some good shots as he turned to look at us before bolting. The light was soft and perfect for good flower photos, so we’re eager to see how they come out. We never lack for good photo opportunities, that’s for sure.
We’re looking forward to another great week.
