C.S. Lewis wrote in his book, The Weight of Glory, “We do not want merely to see beauty, though, God knows, even that is bounty enough. We want something else which can hardly be put into words – to be united with the beauty we see, to pass into it, to receive it into ourselves.”
This is why a week at a dude ranch is so touching for people who crave beauty. Families can take driving trips through Colorado and see more of the breathtaking spots our state has to offer, but they just pass through it – not into it. They aren’t united with it when they merely see it. Our guests wake up to the beauty, they experience it as they ride each day, and they take one more pause to soak it in before retiring each night. I think this is the main reason they are so reluctant to leave on Saturday.
It’s our hope though that they’ve had enough beauty during the week to make a difference in their hearts throughout the rest of the year.
Looking out my window at incredible beauty just waiting to be shared,
Lisa
