It is a thrill when you discover someone else who shares your zeal for a topic close to your heart. Dr. James Dobson with Focus on the Family wrote a short column in the most recent Focus magazine about the importance of taking family vacations. I was nodding my head and smiling as I heard him say that vacations were a “wonderful opportunity for togetherness and bonding.” Can you imagine how excited I was then to read in the next paragraph that their family much preferred a vacation at a dude ranch over two weeks in Hawaii? He wrote, “spending a few lazy afternoons at the dude ranch allowed us the chance to get in touch with one another again. We wouldn’t have traded it for anything. Our relaxed time away from civilization allowed us to ‘recharge our batteries’ as a family.”
We see that happen every week during the summer, and that’s one of the reasons we do what we do. Strengthening families is a crucial task in today’s world, and if we can be a part of that process by creating a wonderful vacation spot, we feel privileged. It’s a fun thing for us to hear of others who appreciate the value of family time at a Colorado guest ranch. In the spirit of March madness, I liken it to discovering that there is another Michigan State Spartan somewhere in Grand County. Cool.
